I liked the location of the hotel. It's only around 3 minutes walk to the subway station. I also really liked the helpfulness of the staff! I went to New York for the first time as a solo female traveler. My departure for an international flight was in the early morning, so I was worried about getting a taxi during those hours. I talked to the staff, and they had contact with a driver that could take me to JFK. I am really thankful for that. I also had two big luggages with me, and the receptionist helped me bring them down since the hotel is on the second floor and there was no elevator.

A very good place close to the subway (that comes straight from/to JFK Jamaica st.). It has all the essential stuff for travelers who are not booking hotels to spend all their time there :) Bed was comfortable, restroom/shower was working without any issues. No noise from the streets. You can come back whenever you want, because there's always someone at the reception. After reading some of the comments I was thinking that we may get dissapointed, but we were pleasantly surprised for what this place offers for this price/location compared to others. Definitely recommended for backpackers!

Look. You get what you pay for. These are cheap as hell hotels, so don’t go expecting much. In fact, reframe your thoughts and rather than bash the place for lack of amenities, small rooms, not hospital grade cleanliness, etc, appreciate that it’s cheap, you get what you need, and you’re near all the places you’d want to be in NYC. So if you start off with this frame of mind, as far as 1-star hotels go, this fits the bill perfectly lol I picked a double with no windows and a shared bathroom and it was fine. I wanted a bed, some place to keep my stuff while in town, and a bathroom to shower and shit. If your needs are similar to mine, then go ahead and book. As my rule, I bring shower shoes and a pillow case, and buy some cheap disinfecting wipes as a precaution for less than stellar cleanliness and I did use all of them except the case because I forgot and it made the place better for me to stay. Perhaps you could do the same. I saw the ladies cleaning the bathroom and mopping the floor so they do clean. I should note that this is an old building so take that into account. And the staff were friendly. No complaints in that department either.

The location here is perfect. Security is also excellent and I felt very safe! This is a very basic hotel. You are getting a good location and a bed. Do not expect much more at this price point in this location. I liked that they cleaned the bathrooms and hallways every morning. I would have no problem staying here again as a single person or a couple just looking for a base to enjoy the city.

We stayed for five nights and our room was smelling a little musty towards the end, so would've been nice to have had the bedding turned. I also didn't love (but tolerated) the 'throwing toilet paper in the waste bin' concept and the way the bathroom floors would be wet after showers. Finally, the walls are extremely thin so bring your noise cancelling headphones/ear plugs in case you have neighbors talking into the early hours; however I always felt the staff had safety and basic comfort as a priority, so I feel like if I had complained about noisy neighbors very late at night (I didn't bother because my headphones worked), they would have asked them to quiet down.

The room had more space than I expected for such a price. I stayed in the room with a private bath and had two windows with heavy velvet curtains for privacy. Very nice. The hard wood floors were clean and swept. Hot water with great pressure. Body wash in the shower. Towels crisp. Not really noisy building at all, given that it's on Bowery.

Bed was hard, even for me. But I noticed the slipcover. The attempt to soften was appreciated Also the television was broken - no remote. I was able to use wifi to watch streaming tv on my device but it was vaguely annoying it was even there on the wall. Still, I wasn't in town to hang out and watch tv anyway.

This hotel is the best value for the money that I've found in Manhattan. I have stayed there twice and will return next time I am in New York. Beds are very comfortable, everything is kept spotless clean and the front desk staff are really helpful. If you're on a budget, this is the place to stay.

Great location, easy walking.. definitely thought we would be able to walk to Times Square for some reason but its like 5 miles away so we got the Citi Bikes which are electric and it was fun!

the room is super small and is literally just a bed and a night stand, the bathrooms are down the hall but they are single room bathrooms which was good you can shut yourself in and lock the door, I was worried we would have to be like showering next to someone else lol but it wasn’t like that, just bring flip flops and you’ll be gucci.

The location was great! The room was tight, but what I expected for what I paid. The room was clean. You do share the bathrooms in the hallway, but there are at least three per floor. We went to the room when it was time to sleep, we slept, had no trouble getting into one of the bathrooms in the morning, and we left.

You cannot adjust the air, it was set at a temperature that should have been fine, but I get hot, and since all that was left was a room with no window, I went out and bought a neck fan. Problem solved. Also, sharing a bathroom with others who don't know how to flush a toilet can be a bit yucky, but you flush it and move on.

Staff was diligent about keeping bathroom clean. also provided soap/ shampoo in shower. There was no community kitchen, living and bedroom space so not much to keep track of. Our bedroom was directly in front of all 3 bathrooms (which we loved) on first floor, and staff was always cleaning sink / floors. Loved the location. Number one thing for us was check in time: 2pm. Most places don’t check in till 3-4 without early check in. We arrived around 1:45 and were promptly checked in, plus we saw baggage in main lobby so I believe others arrived earlier and could drop off baggage to explore city.

The pillow; staying in a hostel has limited amenities but the pillow was absurdly flat so we ended up using our coats to sleep on. Blanket was bulky and heavy, which we liked because it was December. With no ceiling fan not sure about blanket in summertime. Our agenda consisted of waking up at 8am and returning at 12am from exploring the city so having a paper thin pillow was discomforting after an exhausting day. This being our biggest concern should tell you how great our stay was.
