I was pleasantly surprised, I lived in SE Asia for 20 years so am familiar with this type of hotel. The location was the main reason for my stay, it's right in the middle of Manhattan. Check in was easy and efficient and although the room was small I knew what to expect. The rooms have an open ceiling so your nights sleep depends on other guests, luckily there weren't many guests and it was quiet so I had no problem sleeping although during the early evening you could hear people talking and listening to music/radio. The WiFi was good, the bathrooms reasonably clean, the bed comfy and the bedding freshly laundered. It's not 5 star, you get what you pay for and that's the location. I enjoyed my stay, the room was big enough for me and I would definately stay again when in New York. I was out all day so just used the room at night time.

If you're looking for luxury this isn't for you, it's about the location. Personally I have no complaints but you get what you pay for. Bring ear plugs for sleeping and some flip flops for the showers and you'll be fine.

For New York you get what you pay for. The shared bathrooms were always clean and our little postage stamp size bedroom had fresh linen. The reception are great we checked in at midnight which was no problem at all and we were able to leave our bags in the hotel whilst exploring on our check out day. Sure it’s not pretty to look at but it’s cheap and in a central location in New York, what do you expect? The walls are thin and rooms windowless. There was noise (to be expected) so if noises bother you bring ear plugs. Oh and free tea and coffee? Brilliant.

Nothing.

Our stay was very nice. The room is just what was pictured. "PINK" is at the front desk and was one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. The bathrooms were clean and well-kept. If anything was running low all you had to do was ask Pink and it was taken care of. There was hot water and coffee near the front desk. Towels were always available. The bed was clean and free of any bed bugs. The linen was clean and soft.

For what we paid there was nothing to complain about. The only think was that the room wall were very thin.

I don't know what's with the low scoring reviews. For accommodation in New York City, this was a steal! Rooms are small, sure, but they are clean and the beds are comfy, blankets were cozy, and the shared bathrooms were regularly cleaned. The complimentary coffee in the mornings was much appreciated, and the staff were very nice. They even let us check in several hours early after our overnight flight into New York. WiFi was great as well, and lots of food options nearby

Walls were a little thin, but when you had good neighbours that wasn't a problem.

The value is incredible, you can't beat the price for the location you get, you're walking distance to so much and nearby are attractions like the tenament museum, chinatown and little italy, even the ghostbusters firehouse. And of course, youre a short subway ride away from brooklyn and anything you could want to see in manhattan. I liked being able to check in and out at a reasonable time compared to air bnb's, the wifi was great, there was coffee, hot water, wet wipes etc. available. For the frugal or solo travel who just needs a place to crash this place will serve you well, and its not even as spartan as all that, there's plenty of space to store your bags in the room, towels are provided, never had a problem with availability of shared bathrooms and the room was warm despite the winter temperatures outside.

If other guests aren't respectful of quiet times you can hear them, so a good pair of ear plugs serves you well. My trash can hadnt been emptied and some poor traveller had forgotten some clothes in the dresser, but not a big deal took 5 minutes to take care of.

You get what you pay for and for $50 a night in New York, I was not expecting much. Our room was a small box with just enough room for a bed and a small side table with a bin in it. The staff member who showed us to the room noted we could keep our luggage under the bed, but there was still some negotiation between me and the other person when both of us were standing up. However, the staff were very helpful, allowed us to check in several hours early, and provided additional blankets on request. The location is good, with a subway a five minute walk. The wifi reaches all the rooms, not just the public areas. There is an open ceiling, so everything you say can be heard by your neighbours on either side, and for the four days we were there, the sound of people packing up and making phone calls started fairly early - 8ish or so. What I was really impressed by was the cleanliness - the entire place was a little tatty and covered in signs, but very clean. I saw a cleaner mopping away every morning and there was always a smell of cleaning products in the shared bathrooms. I had zero concerns, which when you're staying in cheap hostels is really the main thing you care about. I would heartily recommend the Manhattan Bowery Hotel and would happily stay again.

There is heating which is located in the open ceiling and when it fires up periodically, it sounds like Optimus Prime transforming.

All of the rooms and hallways were clean and well maintained. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location was great, and only a few miles from many places in the neighborhood of the city.

The price I paid matched what I was expecting, however I wasn't expecting the rooms to be as small as they were. My bed was a full size, which was fine for one person, however the bed frame was very noisy and shaky.

This place is extremely basic but it ticks all the boxes you need for a basic, cheap hostel stay. The staff are incredibly nice and accomodating. Special mention to Penk who was so nice and hospitable. Extra towels were available. The shared facilities are more than enough. Ideally a window in the room would be nice but you get what you pay for.... a simple room in the middle of chinatown.

No natural light in rooms.

The location was ideal and the room, while small and basic, was private and comfortable. It felt like a safe haven to return to having spent the day exploring Manhattan and I felt like the accommodation suited the low price I paid for it.

It wasn't ideal having to share a bathroom with other guests. That being said, the bathrooms were kept clean and there was always hot water when I wanted it.
